Further Reading: Patterned paper printing in Florence dates back to the Renaissance, when the city was a hub for bookmaking, art, and design. As beautifully bound books became more popular, so did the need for decorative papersfor endpapers, covers, and wrapping. Florentine artisans developed techniques like block printing, hand-painting, and marbling to meet that demand, turning paper into an art form of its own.
